Tattoo Removal

When ink enters the skin, the body’s first defence mechanism Macrophages are sent to consume and remove it. Macrophages get to work eating up and removing as many ink particles as they can, but some ink particles are too big for the macrophages to eat and remain in the skin as a permanent tattoo. Laser treatment works by an absorption of light energy by ink particles, using a short pulsed laser we are able to target ink particles under the skin resulting in the ink particles being shattered into small enough particles for the mighty macrophage to eat and remove naturally.

To allow macrophages time to consume as many ink particles as they can we advise a minimum of 6 weeks resting period between treatments, 6 weeks will also enable the dermal layers in the treated area to heal sufficiently, reducing any risk of damage to the skin from further treatments.
The amount of treatments you will need will depend on many variables and will be unique to every tattoo, things like the placement of the tattoo, the age of the tattoo, is the tattoo professional or amateur and what kind of colours are in the tattoo, are all among some of the many things that will affect the outcome of laser treatments, after consultation we will be able to give an estimated number of treatments that may be needed to achieve your desired outcome.
Treatment sessions will depend on the size of the tattoo, but are often quicker than people expect, for example a small 3x3 cm tattoo should be no longer that a few minutes.

The sensation is likened to the snap of an elastic band on the skin. Employing techniques before, during, and after treatment we can manage discomfort, most people find it tolerable and are often surprised at the fast nature of treatment. And of course, the desire to remove and unwanted tattoo can be a great motivator!
